i just can't stop laughing.

our apt. is killing us. specifically, the noise is keeping us from getting good sleep. the nearby trains run constantly and the layout of the neighboring buildings makes the sounds come directly into our bedroom. we've tried earplugs but those end up coming out in the middle of the night. we even bought a big 5 foot by 5 foot sheet of 4" think foam to set in the windowsill. the foam helps but it's not enough. i think i just might set some explosives on the train tracks...

not entirely happy with her eyes. i struggled with them all evening and completely erased one with only 10 minutes to go but it ended up okay. but just okay. she had such an odd haircut (we seem to get a lot of those in the art world) so her hair wasn't very interesting for me to try and capture but it's there, at least in shape and general tone.

a little disappointed in how the legs turned out, even with the foreshortening, they're too short/squat/small. but i got her face!
and i do like the white on black stuff, it make my eyes work in a different way than normal and that's fun.

rice rice baby

ended up geting the zojirushi ns-zcc10 rice cooker. it had really great reviews so i figured it would work. we tried it out for the first time last night and i think z was not happy. it's not like her old speed cooker as it took ~1.5 hours to cook our brown rice. so dinner was a bit late but the rice turned out really nice! maybe even a little too soft for me. it has an auto cook timer function so we'll have to figure out how to get that going before we get home on days we need the rice.

well poo. i've totally messed up on the proportions of her head or something. she looks kinda like a bird or maybe a lizard. i need to get my smooth paper drawing pad, maybe that'll make me draw better. hehe!

once

i was lucky enough to attend a screening of the movie "once" today. i really didn't know what the movie was about but it was highly rated and a sundance film festival winner so i figured it'd be worth my time (plus a good way to spend lunch!). it's being touted as a musical for the new generation or something like that so i wasn't expecting much but was pleasantly surprised when the first couple of songs came on. this wasn't a musical to me but more like a music video with a story. i didn't know the lead actors but soon found out they were from a band i had been listening to a bit earlier this year.
i had heard the song "falling slowly" by glen hansard & marketa irglova about three months or so ago and fell in love with it. it has so much power and beautiful harmony that it lodges itself into my head and i want to hear it over and over again. in the movie, when glen started to play it on the guitar, i was so excited! i knew this song! i love this song! needless to say, i loved the movie. i can't wait to buy the soundtrack.
