cookin

made some mahi mahi last night. it was really my first time cooking with fish that didn't come frozen and breaded. i was going off the recipe here from sunset magazine. (on a side note, also had my first martini last night) i've heard from many people that sunset is an old person's magazine but i really like it... maybe i'm just old. it has lots of recipes that sound good, lots of tips on gardening (when z and i finally get our garden!) and also articles on trips and things to do fairly close to home.
back to the fish, it turned out pretty good. it was $10 worth that was really just 2 portions so i doubt z and i would be eating it often but we'll throw it in our recipe book and make it again.

long pose

a few of the past couple months of the long pose class. i haven't been going regularly and i haven't been very happy with the outcome of any of them. i finished off my super smooth drawing pad as well so i'm back to the rough stuff. maybe i'll get to the art store one of these days.

grrr

i hate our rice cooker. z got it a while back but i'm going to buy a new one. this one keeps burning the rice.

unacceptable!

i'm thinking of a zojirushi brand cooker. i've read they're pretty good.

story is overrated

as shown by transformers. ugh, what a brick.

z and i made mattar paneer last night, it turned out really well! we got the recipe from a book at the library and were ready to send it back if this dish turned out as bland as the last but lucklily, it wasn't. well, we *did* double the garlic and cayenne pepper...

we likes our spice!

anyone have any good veg indian cookbook recommendations?

yummy chicken

since z and i bought our grill on memorial day, we've used it maybe 3 or 4 times. on the 4th, we actually grilled something other than sausages! i was looking through a few of the magazines we have around the house and i found a recipe for chicken i thought sounded quick, easy, and would be using ingredients we were already getting for other planned meals of the week. here's the scoop:

2lbs, boned & skinned chicken breasts, cut into 1 1/2" cubes
1/2 cup chopped cilantro
2 tbsp lime juice
1 tsp salt
1 tsp smoked paprika
1/2 tsp fresh ground pepper
3 tbsp olive oil

toss all that in a bag with the chicken, squish it around to coat then let it sit in the fridge for 30 minutes to marinate. put the cubes on skewers and hit the bbq.

it could be that i only had ~1lb of chicken and didn't halve the marinade but it turned out so tasty! the chicken wasn't overcooked or anything and i had already trimmed away all the fat and tendony parts. even z liked it! we also grilled a couple of spicy sausages, a few green onions (drizzled in olive oil), tossed all that on some rice with mango salsa on the side. yum.

design flaw

my palm tungsten e.

once the battery dies, all my saved data is gone. all of it. notes, memos, address book, game data. why is this? yes, i know sync-ing will fix this but why should i even need to do that?

lame.
