worn out!
i'm so ready for a vacation. but it seems like getting everything ready for that vacation is more work than you expect. the last 3 hours of work today were pure stress and hell. (luckily, i had a beer to quench my thirst)
ahhh, can't wait to get this thing started! we'll both be out for the week so i hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!
bye!

six word stories
from wired.
"Dozens of our favorite auteurs put their words to paper, and five master graphic designers took them to the drawing board. Sure, Arthur C. Clarke refused to trim his ("God said, 'Cancel Program GENESIS.' The universe ceased to exist."), but the rest are concise masterpieces."
a few funny ones...
Machine. Unexpectedly, I’d invented a time
- Alan Moore
Longed for him. Got him. Shit.
- Margaret Atwood
TIME MACHINE REACHES FUTURE!!! … nobody there …
- Harry Harrison
Leia: "Baby's yours." Luke: "Bad news…"
- Steven Meretzky
Dorothy: "Fuck it, I'll stay here."
- Steven Meretzky
flickr has a pool for this as well. fun!

long pose
well, trying black on white after just working white on black for the past few weeks was difficult. the model was in the same pose but i think i got in a slightly better spot because i could see more of her head (or maybe she fixed her hair different). i still messed up on the face but i realized it too late to fix it. i'm very ready for a new pose & model but next week, i'm going to be in cabo san lucas with my girlfriend and her sister & bil. so drawing will have to wait until the week after that.
(she's away for a few days doing some training so i'm at her place cat-sitting) (goodness, they're spunky at night)
i'll post the drawing in the morning.

almost forgot
to mention the orgasmically good hot cocoa from scharffen berger that i had today. we stopped in for a quick purchase and i had to sample the cocoa 3 times....
good lord, it's tasty.

mind the gaps
first off, the final project runway was less than exciting. when they announced the prizes the winner would get, " a mentorship at inc/macy's"i knew who would win.. he had some interesting styles but really, was just as limited as all the others. feh. maybe next season will be more interesting.
the next tv show, antm. i'm glad they let her go. though i am surprised they haven't let a few others go before her. it turned out to be a pretty funny episode. z and i were laughing at a lot of it. ...of course it could have been the sake... it doesn't seem like as many girls want to win as last season.
friday night, z and i went out to eat with one of her friends. we went to a little mexican place down the street and got thoroughly toasted off margaritas. good thing we could stumble back home to sleep!
saturday eve, z and i had planned on making a swift trip through a local shopping center to get a few things as well as have dinner. it turned out there was an hour and a half wait to eat at friggin' p.f. changs!? wtf?? at 6:30!? the food isn't that great! needless to say we drove around trying to decide on what to eat and settled on a new place. it turned out to be pretty good. the menu was a litttle on the limited side but the items we got were all delicious. we opted out of dessert and instead went home and had candy from the sweet cabinet and watched tv.
sunday was going to be a running day but z's ankle has been a little sore (she twisted it twice on our last run!) and my shins are always tender so we decided to hold off until monday morning. we made a trip to target to get a few things and also stopped by a cute market to get some stuff for a planned picnic. we made it over to my place to start a load of laundry then headed out for lunch. we went up into the park in the hills and found a really nice spot. secluded, quiet, perfect temperature. it was just gorgeous. we spread out a blanket and opened up her picnic basket. we had cheese & crackers, salads, wine, olives, salami, grapes, and ended with a little chocolate. it was wonderful. after we had our fill, we laid there and chatted, both a little buzzy from the wine. we even smooched a bit since we were all alone. whee!

we made it back to my place to get more laundry going and then took a much needed nap while the dryer did it's work. ahh, what a nice weekend. i really needed it!
did i mention we're going to cabo in a few days? yay!

new favorite drink
like z said, i can't believe we hadn't thought of this before.
via the ny times.
jalapeño margarita
2 slices jalapeño pepper
1 tablespoon sugar
2 oz. your favorite tequila
4 oz. fresh lime juice (z and i agree that 4oz is too much, we went for slightly over 2oz)
1 oz. cointreau
1 oz. sprite
muddle a jalapeño slice with the sugar (z and i threw both slices in), then add the tequila, lime juice, cointreau and sprite. add ice and shake well, then pour into a highball glass with a salted rim. garnish with lime wedge and remaining jalapeño slice.
yields: 1 serving
yum!

busy busy busy
i've been up to all sorts of things lately. most of my time has been spent on making contraptions for my ttv (through the viewfinder) projects. i'm enjoying it but it's also difficult to find subjects to photograph. here's a few shots i've done recently.

anyway, that's what i've been up to...
snappin' photos and hanging with my girl.

she's home
i'm doing much better now.
we went out for a couple of runs over the weekend. the one this morning was at the high school track and that's kinda fun since we can both run at our own pace but never be far away from each other. plus a change of scenery is always nice. we might try the hills one of these days.
we caught up on our tv shows, talking, & smooching. i'm really surprised how long the last week felt with her gone. even though we were talking and emailing, it still felt like there was a huge disconnect between us. i can't imagine how people can have long distance relationships and make them work. i think face to face talking is a fundamental part of our relationship and i like it that way.
i heard of an art show that has an open call for artists so i'm trying to think of something interesting to submit for that. i've only been in one other art show so i'm not really sure how they work. i guess if any of my ideas actually make it to a real piece of art, i'll find out how it all works. i'm soliciting z on her thoughts to see if that'll help my creativity.

i'm finally happy
if you watched antm last night you know why. that's all i have to say, goodnight.
oh, one more thing, i really really really miss z. :( watching the show without her was not anywhere near as fun. 2 more days...

long pose
sucked. i spent half the class trying to get a portrait on the figure i worked on last week. it didn't come out well. i mean, unless you like lon chaney that is.

white pencil on black paper is difficult for me. even more difficult is a portrait using that technique.
i was pretty frustrated so i spent the last 40 minutes (2 sittings) drawing a quick profile portrait in pencil on white paper. i was much happier with those results even though i didn't have a very good composition. well, happy being a relative term and all. :) oh well, here's to next week! and yes, she really did have that large a jaw. i think she must workout or something.

*******
it's been 3 days and z's gone for another 3. i'm not liking this. plus she's got another business trip in a week. man, that trip to cabo is going to be a very much needed break.
