i'm fairly happy with how this one turned out. the portrait is okay (as long as it's not 3/4 view, i think i can handle it!). i'm not thrilled with the shading on the knee and the background. as well as that i didn't finish the feet. but otherwise, it's not too bad. i also wish she had easier hair...

okay... (rolls up sleeves) here we go.

1) your drinking glasses - well, i have a bunch of glasses and very few actual sets of glasses so this pic is of a martini glass. i'm really enjoying sidecars!



2) your address book/stationary - well, i tried to find my old address book but it must be packed away somewhere in the depths of my closet so i got a shot of my stationary instead. what? you have something fancier than post-its?? bah! this is how i communicate!



3) something new - i just picked up this bowl set at my local crate and barrel outlet. the glass mixing bowls i have were chipping like crazy and i was tired of getting glass shards stuck in my teeth (joking). these are much nicer. :)

not sure why i was so frustrated tonight. i tried a portrait, which i usually don't do so that's probably the basis of my frustration. yeah, she looks like a person but she doesn't look at all like the model. faces are tough and i need to keep trying. just keep swimming, just keep swimming...

the start of the week

had a great dinner with my gf last night. we made this recipe from eating well magazine. why is it that we never seem to have enough time in the evenings to see and talk to each other? it seems like we get off work and have just enough time to make dinner & eat then it's time to get ready for bed. i think we need to change the work day to 6 hours. yeah... that's it.

i'm still trying to move into my new office. i haven't unpacked anything yet since i still need to put up my shelves. i've got boxes piled up outside my office just so i have room to move around. the walls are really thin and i can hear my neighbors talking. there's already some music wars going on as well. whee! did i mention that 50% of my work is in the other building? that means spending a lot of my day walking back and forth between the two places and i can't wait for the rainy season!

moving day

i'm changing offices today. my dept has taken roost in a newly built section of another building. i'm leaving a big double office with large windows to a small and narrow office without much natural light (some skylights in the halls). i'm am moving all my own stuff since the last time i let the hired movers do it, they broke some of my belongings. this is good in that i'll be to blame if something is broken but it's bad because i have a lot of crap. i've got more toys in my office than most people have at home. really! on top of moving, i still have to try and get my normal work done so i'm going to wear myself out today. oh yeah, i've got a drawing class i want to get to as well. whee!

i think i spent almost the entire evening on her face. it's really hard trying to get any sort of resemblance at such a small size but i kept trying... and trying...
overall, the drawing isn't bad. it's not a great pose but it'll do. i wish i had a little more time to finish the hand and work the fabric a bit better. i'm liking the drawing pad though. it's nice that it doesn't fall apart with repreated erasing (like i did on her face). the main drawback is that my single pencil (#2) just doesn't get very dark. maybe i should try the pencil set i bought a few months ago one more time. ah well, here's to next week.

having a great weekend. i finished up a lamp i've been working on. this was more of an experiment in lighting since i wasn't as precise as i'd want it to be. plus i'm thinking of a bunch of other lamps to make now so do i re-use parts from this one or start anew? hmm.



i went running with my girlfriend in the afternoon and then went out to dinner in the evening. since our first restaurant pick was closed, we ended up going to À Côté. as usual, we had a great time eating, drinking, and talking. i keep thinking how lucky i am to have met her. we had a couple coctails a piece, she started off with the guyana star and i had a sidecar. both were delicious! i'd never had a sidecar before and now i'm interested in trying to make one at home. guess i need to make a trip to bevmo! we had the cheese plate, the grilled tuna, the pomme frites, and the polenta. our second drinks (i insisted we try something new) were the... um, well they're not on the website and i can't remember the names. they were good but not quite as yummy as the others. for dessert we had the coupe a cote. extremely delicious! and a glass of port. the port was a little on the stiff side and gave me a nice burn in my nose. i think it would have been a little better if it were sweeter but what do i know!

we were both zonked so we headed back to her place and promptly fell asleep. today she's off getting her hair cut and i need to get some errands done. great day.

zerodoll had the idea, i just executed it. this is my drawing pad, a clean white page just waiting for something to be created.

this was the hardest for me. it was kinda late when i started taking shots for this so the brightest thing i could find was the evening sun reflecting off a building.

i needed some assistance with this one. luckily, i had a willing volunteer. i musta had the water a bit too hot 'cause she started sweating after a few minutes. she said she enjoyed it anyway :)

went pretty well. i bought a new drawing pad. it's supposed to be smoooooth and honestly, it is. i'm not getting a lot of the smudgies i get with the rougher papers but it seems that i'm also not getting as dark. not such a problem really since i'm usually on the lighter side anyway.
this is a 2 week pose so i'm hoping that i can add to this drawing next week.

US Airways SUCKS!!!

due to the weather, my girlfriend is stuck in an airport. US Airways will NOT be giving her a hotel voucher, a taxi voucher, or even a stinking food voucher. they WILL however be happy to put her on the next available flight at 7:00 am to take a 4 hour flight with 2 layovers and a plane swap. this same flight non-stop would normally take slightly over an hour. luckily, i (as in me. yes, i was able to find this, why did they not offer it to her?) saw there was another non-stop leaving at 10:00 that would make it there sooner than the one that left at 7:00 and she was able to get on that one. are the people working behind the counter complete morons??

they won't even let her get her bag! and oh! they said there's no hotel vacancy in the immediate area but there is one place 30 minutes away that has room but they don't have a shuttle there so you're on your own. i called around and found a place 5 minutes away. grrrr. US Airways sucks!!! if you ever have to fly with them, hope that you don't run into any weather!

i was finally able to get back into spf this week and kristine over at random and odd, wanted to see these 3 things:

1. Something ‘Sparkly’
2. Something ‘Dull’
3. Something ‘Colorful’

1) something sparkly... all i could think of was christmas lights. no, they're not still up at my house (or are they?). these are actually for a lighting project i'm crafting. let's see if it ever gets made!


2) something dull... i could only think of boring things translating into a 'dull' image so it took me a little while to find something fairly boring but would also make an interesting picture. this was as dull as my imagination could go tonight.


3) something colorful... i figured a sunset might work out for a colorful photo. this is my downtown, complete with a moon.


there you have it. i might not have boobie shots like kristine but i get the job done! have a great weekend everyone!

wednesday

maybe it was that time of the month for me or something but i was so happy to see my girlfriend last night. (yeah, a whole 2 days apart.) after pushing her against the door as i walked in and kissing her for a few minutes, i calmed down and we talked about each other's day, our exercising, our blogging. we made whole wheat spaghetti with trader joe's roasted garlic sauce. it smells super garlicky but doesn't leave you with bad breath (a good attribute). we had salad and breadsticks and she let me have the last glass of one of the wines we bought over the weekend (super delicious!). over dinner we discussed other people's relationships, our own previous relationships and the mistakes we made. we still haven't had much of a fight and i think she's a little concerned. not that it'll be bad but more that it'll come as a shock. i'm fairly easy going so i have a feeling it might be a while before it happens. i'll probably be devestated :)
the rest of the evening, we watched a few episodes of jeopardy! and checked blogs before getting ready for bed. i had a great evening, talking, touching, connecting.
